About Colleen Barney
Early Education
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Central Michigan with her degree in history and philosophy, Ms. Colleen Barney began to attend the University of Michigan Law School to study law. Working full-time to obtain her degree, Barney’s academic accomplishments were nowhere short of spectacular. She was the Vice President of the Intellectual Property Students Association, the President of the Sports Law Society, the Vice President of the Student Senate, and the Graduate Student Liaison for the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Graduate Studies
Barney received her JD with a 3.0+ GPA, and was most notably honored with the Irving Stenn Award. Ms. Colleen Barney went on to complete her Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of San Diego Law School.
Career
In 1993, Barney began to work for Jackson DeMarco & Peckenpaugh, where she dealt with advanced estate and gift tax planning for high net worth individuals and business owners. She is currently the managing partner of Albrecht & Barney, and is responsible for day to day management of the firm in addition to developing clients and meetings and working for clients with respect to their estate plans. Ms. Colleen Barney became a partner in 1997, and for the past four years has been the largest business originator for the firm. In 1995, Colleen Barney was the youngest certified specialist in California estate planning and trust and probate law at the time she received the designation. Ms. Colleen Barney is a part of both the California and Orange County Bar Associations.
Community Involvement
Aside from her active career, Ms. Colleen Barney is also very involved in her community and athletics. Barney donates to the American Cancer Society and the University of Michigan. She also trains and competes in Masters Track, where she runs in the 100M and 200M events.
